Considering picking up an 2004 E85 Z4 3.0 - 6M, Sport Package, Really nice shape. I am aiming to go look at the car tomorrow and am putting together some thoughts of questions to ask and common problems I should look out for and plan to resolve if I buy the car. There are some major differences between the Z3 and E85 Z4, there are also some subtle differences between the Z4M and non-M as well. We will be following this rebuild up with an identical process on Lee's 3.0si coupe so you should get to see all the differences.

He loves the car, but we have not been able to get it started for a couple of weeks now! I have checked the battery, alternator and starter motor, and all is OK. I have checked fuses & earth connections, and still no joy.

I was looking at the E46, probably a 2001 knowing it is the same as the E85 essentially. In the process, I learned of the dreaded subframe issue in which look at video!! the entire rear of the car has structural cracks. Logically, I began wondering if this is something that has been reported in the Z4.
It seems like it would be a permanent fix. Here is the narrative: "Z4 Sticky Steering Fix. There is an eccentric ring between the steering column and steering column electric motor. That eccentric ring is there to adjust the play/distance between worm gear (electric motor) and spur gear (steering column).
